MILAN IVANIČ – CAPTURING THE NORTHERN LANDSCAPE

12-10-25 to 30-01-26

This new exhibition includes pen and ink drawings as well as acrylic and watercolour paintings. It can be viewed both on this website and also in the Atrium Gallery at Low Wood Bay, Windermere, Cumbria.

The exhibition coincides with the publication of Field of Marks – The life and work of Milan Ivanič by Roz Ivanič. Milan Ivanič has lived and worked in the north west of England since 1986. In this exhibition, drawings and paintings are interspersed. They show the enormous diversity of Milan’s work, yet they also show how drawing is integral to his paintings, and how he ‘paints’ with immensely varied fields of marks in his pen-and-ink work.

Milan grew up in the village of Sebuzín, where the Elbe travels north into the mountains which divide Czecholsovakia (as it was at that time) from Germany.  This was the landscape he loved and the subject of many of his early graphic works.

He studied at the Hollar School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work over the past six decades consists of what he calls ‘drawing-paintings’ with a wide range of subjects – portraits, family life, figure compositions, landscapes. His work concerns the interplay between struggle and celebration: often abstracted, but always with a foothold in reality. Milan has worked, exhibited and sold in the UK, Europe, the US and Australia.
