Norman Adams: 7 June -12 July 2011, Watercolour Paintings from Yorkshire to Provence, 1950's to 1990's
Born in Walthamstow in 1927, after studying at Harrow School of Art, studied as a Post - graduate student at the Royal College of Art 1948- 51. First solo show at Gimpel Fils, London 1952.
Designed set and costumes for the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden and sets for Sadler's Wells.
In 1955 moved to Horton - in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire and began a series of watercolour and oil paintings of the Yorkshire Dales. From 1962 - 70 Head of Painting at Manchester College of Art.
In 1969 bought a croft in Scarp, Outer Hebrides and spent next ten summers producing paintings inspired by the island scenery. Received a number of commissions, most notably 14 ceramic panels for Roman Catholic church at Milton Keynes and Stations of the Cross for St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Manchester.
From 1986 - 95 Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools. Died 2005.
His work is in numerous public and private collections including the Tate Gallery.
