Chris Rigby lives in Burton in Lonsdale in the Craven district of North Yorkshire. He studied illustration at Falmouth School of Art in Cornwall.

During his time in Falmouth he states that he, ‘developed an interest in the techniques of the old masters, I realized this was the foundation for much of what I was taught in illustration, through the Old Masters I sought what I saw as the source.’

His painting ‘Cut Throat Rock’, a large oil painting of rocks off the coast of the Iveragh peninsula in County Kerry Ireland, won first prize in 2011 in Kendal’s ‘Open Up North Exhibiton’ which was held at various venues in the town including the Abbot Hall Gallery. In the last few years he has had a number of very successful exhibitions.

The West coast of Ireland is a place Chris has painted many times and a number of paintings of the area feature in the Linton Court Gallery’s exhibition. Other locations include: The coast of Shetland, the Lakeland Fells, Exmoor, the Howgills in Cumbria and the countryside of Surrey.
