Following their recent joint exhibition at the Lanntair Arts Centre in Stornoway Scotland, Settle based artists Margaret Uttley and David Knight will be exhibiting their paintings and drawings at Gavagan Art this autumn.

This body of work is inspired by a number of trips to the Outer Hebrides, in particular the Isle of Harris.

Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides make up the largest island in Scotland.

Margaret and David’s paintings and drawings celebrate the dramatic promontory and vertical cliffs of Gallan Head and the Valtos peninsula of Harris.

Dominated by the Atlantic Ocean and vast open skies, their work engages with the scale of this Hebridean environment, capturing the dramatic weather and the movement of the sky and sea.

Both artists are originally from Yorkshire - Margaret from Todmorden and David from Halifax. David is currently Head of Art at Giggleswick School near Settle, North Yorkshire.

They each have had their work in numerous exhibitions both regionally and nationally.
One of Margaret’s drawings has recently been selected for the prestigious
Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2018 exhibition. The drawing was exhibited last year at Gavagan Art.

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, formerly Jerwood Drawing Prize, is the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK.
Within the exhibition at Gavagan Art will be a display of watercolours by the late Norman Adams R. A. (1927 - 2005)
Norman who was Keeper at the Royal Academy London for 15 years had a long association with both North Yorkshire and the Hebrides.

Please find below a selection of images from the exhibition. Further images to follow and prices.

Please note: All work will be for sale from 11am Saturday 8 September.
