Katharine Holmes
Katharine is an artist who has become known for her paintings which capture the northern landscape, predominantly her native Yorkshire Dales. Born into a Malhamdale family of painters in 1962 and following degree study in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle, Katharine returned to the Yorkshire Dales in 1990.

In the words of the late Norman Adams RA RWS, who taught Katharine at the University of Newcastle, and whose work is in the entrance room here at Gavagan Art:

"It is not so much that Katharine Holmes makes statements about her native landscape as that she is constantly questioning and trying to discover its essence. Then she tries to fuse her materials to her subject matter, by means of emotional understanding, and they become one".

David Thomas
David Thomas studied Fine Art painting at Cheltenham, Cardiff and Leeds and has painted continuously since leaving Cardiff in 1989. Continuous and observational drawing is a central activity in David Thomas’ practice. His paintings are done in oil paint on board, panel or canvas. Most are still-life compositions, observed from the objects in front of him. They start with a long process of drawing and re-arrangement. He is based in Crosshills, North Yorkshire.

Maureen Grealy
Maureen Grealy was born in 1959 and studied fine art painting at Leeds University. Maureen who lives in the Fylde, Lancashire has taught art and photography in a number of colleges in the north of England. Drawing on diverse subject matter for her paintings including historical portraiture, landscape and still life, her preferred medium is oil and gouache.

Alongside the work of the artists named above there are paintings, original prints and ceramics by a range of artists / ceramicists on display.
