Margaret Uttley was born in Todmorden in 1965.  After studying an Art Foundation Course at Percival Whitley College, Halifax, she went to study Fine Art at Bristol University. Margaret's work has featured in many exhibitions and in 2015 she was awarded a grant by Arts Council England for her exhibition at Dean Clough Gallery Halifax and Gallery Oldham.

Margaret says that growing up in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire had a huge influence on her as an artist: ‘This environment was really exposed, isolated and at times harsh. This was my playground, with wide-open spaces to run around in and explore. The dramatic, spacious environment was rich in texture and full of interest and it changed with the seasons – this stimulated me and influenced the purpose of my work.’

An exhibition of Margaret's work takes place at Gavagan Art 15 July - 18 August 2017. For more details and to receive an invitation to the opening day of the exhibition please see Current Exhibition page.
