Cornwall has attracted artists for many years. In the 1890's the painters Stanhope Forbes, Etc etc. painted in the west Penwith town of Newlyn.

In the interwar years the artists Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson - Opening of the  Barbara Hepworth Museum , opening of Tate St Ives brought new interest.

Work in this exhibition is by both new and well established artists, inluding  paintings and prints, by: Sir Terry Frost RA, Breon O’Casey, Alan Davie, Anthony Frost, John Hoyland RA, Felicity Mara, Bob Devereux and Neil Canning.

A number of works in the forthcoming exhibition are associated with Hugh Stoneman (1947-2005) who was a Master Printer, establishing in 1995 his print studio in Madron, Cornwall. Hugh was renowned for his unique collaborations with national and international artists and in 1998 an exhibition was held about his work at the Tate St Ives.

In 2008 the Art Fund purchased an important archive of 99 master prints produced by Hugh Stoneman, for Falmouth Art Gallery. A publication of all these prints was produced and will be available during the Settle exhibition.
