Sam Dalby

Sam Dalby, who graduated from Cleveland College of Art and Design, has established a firm reputation as a portrait painter. He works predominanty from life, preferring the spontaneity of expression that direct observation allows. 

This year Sam has entered a number of open competitions, these include, The BP Portrait Award at The National Portrait Gallery, and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual show at The Mall Galleries, both of which he has exhibited at previously. 

Since being shortlisted for The Bulldog Bursary in 2009, (an award which provides the opportunity for an artist to develop their practice) Sam has received mentoring from some of the most prestigious portrait painters in the country, and has maintained close ties with The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and will be applying for full membership this year. 

Alongside a number of portraits, Sam will be exhibiting figure studies at the Linton Court Gallery. 

One of Sam’s portraits has been selected for the Royal Society Annual Exhibition, which is at the Mall Galleries London May the 5th-20th 2011.
